Uninformed Voting

So, here we are. A couple of days away from a Conservative minority government. Also of note, we are about a month away from a probable NDP led coalition government. Just let that sink in for a minute: A party that puts out a pie in the sky platform has a shot at governing.

Keep in mind, if you will, that NDP platforms on the Federal level are designed precisely for the reason that the NDP knows it will never get the chance to implement them. They are, in their own minds, the conscience of the House. In other words, they just sit there and tell everyone how much better it would be if they were in power without ever worrying about actually having power.

How did we get here? What could motivate people to vote for the NDP after having read their platform? For one thing, it doesn't make sense. There are item by item breakdowns elsewhere, if you are so inclined. He wants to cut subsidies to the oil patch, then tax the oil patch, then lower the price of home heating. That's for starters. It's the one that should say to people "Hey, what the heck? That doesn't make any sense at all!"

So, the only way I could see so many people being in favour of a party with such a schizophrenic platform is if they didn't understand that the plan could not be realized because they never read it. Oh, I know the core of the party read it, and endorsed it and never thought for a second they would have to implement it.

I mean, how do you hope to pick up seats in places like Alberta, Saskatchewan or Ontario when your platform is quite clear it will penalize industries that use fossil fuels? You can hope to pick up seats because you can hope that people have no clear idea what you are going to do. Looks like it worked pretty well.

The only real hope to stop Jack Layton from implementing NEP 2 is to make sure Jack Layton doesn't have the ability to form government. So, vote mobs and protest voters, do you know for whom and for what your are voting? I know you are voting against something. What are you voting for?
