The Stimulus Package

Plenty of rumors as to what will be in the budget, all of them point to insane amounts of spending in depressed sectors. The only thing I can hope for is that the government does fall over such fiscal recklessness.

Someone will have to take me off to the side and explain how tossing money at the auto industry is a good thing. They make money by selling cars. If no one buys cars, then they do not make money. Therefore, one would assume that the Federal government will be buying cars. If they aren't buying cars, then one might assume that they are giving the auto industry a whole pile of money for doing nothing.

Same goes for the forestry industry. The core of that is cutting down trees. The trees are then turned into various wood based products. Giving them money to manufacture items that aren't being purchased seems like really poor use of resources. If they are being given money to do nothing, then I opine that it is a waste of money.

As for retraining money, that should be what the surplus EI money is for. Should have been that way for years. It wasn't. Same goes with infrastructure. This is an ongoing expense, an operating cost, if you will. If the feds haven't been investing on things like roads, then shame on them. If they have been, then what the hell is this money for?

Oddly, no one has put the notion of rebuilding the Armed Forces on the table. Ship building, heavy equipment manufacturing and educational opportunities all in one. If they are going to essentially tell fiscal conservatives (like myself) to take a hike, they could at least do something for the foreign policy hawks (like myself) to salve the burn.

And it is a burn. This overspending is a betrayal of actual conservative principles. I asked left wing bloggers who were atwitter regarding the notion of the Separatist Coalition overthrowing the Conservatives "What Price Power?" How many of your principles would you betray just so you could have control? I'm not betraying my core principles.
